Boston and Philadelphia will reveal some of their intriguing stories in which they share a history as America’s Revolutionary hubs. New York City has its own unique story to tell. Washington DC will amaze you with its huge impressive buildings, monuments and museums, as it is the Capital of the United States. Although these important cities cover a big part of the trip, Cape Cod will capture your attention. With plenty of opportunity to discover the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Cod National Seashore is a destination of its own. Mystic Seaport will give you another perspective with a 19th-century seafaring village that comes to life.

Because of the small distances between the destinations and the many ways the parks interact with children, we consider this as a child-friendly trip. Be sure to explore the kids and youth section on the National Park Service website for each destination. Kids will adore it to become a junior ranger.

Salt Pond Visitor Center

Look for accommodation in Cape Cod area.

Info for this point: Salt Pond Visitor Center is Cape Cod National Seashore's main visitor facility, with frequent orientation movies, a well stocked bookstore, a comprehensive museum, and restroom facilities. Offering breathtaking views of Nauset Marsh and the Atlantic beyond, this Visitor Center is also convenient to the popular 1.5 mile Nauset Marsh Trail and the 0.25 mile Buttonbush Trail.

Day 4:A fine place to start your Cape Cod adventure is at the Salt Pond Visitor Center. Swim in the ocean and feel the soft sand under your feet at one of Cape's Cod six swimming beaches. Go for one of the park's bicycle trails or take a self guided trail at the seashore, such as the Nauset Marsh Trail. One of the things you should not miss on this trip and also one of the important ecotourism industries in eastern Massachusetts is whale watching. Most of those sea-going trips head out to Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. So be sure to plan a visit to Provincetown and MacMillan Wharf.

Day 5:Driving: From Salt Pond Visitor Center (Cape Cod) to Mystic Seaport your estimated driving time is 2 hours and 27 minutes.
