This is a real road adventure. From scenic byway to scenic byway the road leads you all the way from Vancouver to Whitehorse and back, through diverse natural eco-regions. With 3 weeks or 22 days and 5.638 km (3.503 miles) to go, you will enter the wild backcountry of Northern BC and a very small part of the Yukon Territory and Alaska.

In this trip you'll become an expert of Sea-to-Sky Highway, Cariboo Highway, John Hart Highway, Don Philips Way, the world famous Alaska Highway, Tagish Loop, Klondike Highway and Haines Highway both part of the Golden Circle Tour, Bear Highway, the Alaska Marine Highway System, Cassiar Highway, Glacier Highway, the Salmon Glacier Tour and finally the Trans-Canada Highway. Although kms and kms of driving, on what sometimes seems never ending roads, the untamed scenic beauty of ocean vistas, lush (boreal) forests, coastal temperate rainforest, alpine tundra, grasslands, prairie farmlands, wetlands, land dotted with lakes, rolling hills, numerous wildlife and less human encounters, largely unpopulated wilderness, stunning mountainviews, glaciers you can almost touch, ghost towns, history of the pioneer days, native history, old trails and relics from the Second World War era... those roads have their own story to tell.

Day 12 and 13:Haines is such a nice Port Community of the Alaska Marine Highway System. One fast state ferry hour away from busy Skagway, here you'll find now overwhelming cruise tourism. Cruiseships are not allowed to dock. Drive the bear highway and visit Chilkoot Lake State Recreation Site. Here you can take a walk through coastal temperate rainforest our enjoy Chilkoot Lake. Let native storytellers bring you back to their mystic roots and maybe you find out how mosquitoes were brought into the world. Try out a delicious gourmet fresh seafood menu. Stroll around the harbour, take in the magnificent view of the Lynn Canal and watch for bald eagles gracious flying in the sky.

Day 14:Driving:
On the road again, the fast Haines-Skagway ferry allows you to make a shortcut. Now the Klondike Highway and the Alaska Highway take you to the Cassiar Highway and the Stewart/Hyder area.
From Haines Visitor Information Center to Nisutlin Bay Bridge your estimated driving time is 5 hours and 37 minutes. This trip includes a ferry, so you have to make reservations in advance. The ferry only leaves at 12:30 pm. Go to the 'Reservations' page of http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/ to start your reservation.
